John A. Padilla, AIA has been engaged in planning and development on a wide range of projects located in New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. He has over 18 years of experience as an architect in Texas and 27 years of experience in Santa Fe and Northern New Mexico.
John’s portfolio spans residential, commercial, tenant development, food service, restaurants, brewery and taprooms, single and multi-family housing, mixed use projects, galleries, commercial office development and planning services. His services are enhanced with special project development capabilities including design, planning, construction documents, construction observation and administration along with Owner representation.
John has served as a member of the City of Santa Fe’s Historic Districts Review Board and as the Co-chair during his tenure. He served on the City’s Planning Commission and currently serves as a member of the City of Santa Fe’s Community Development Commission.
John’s many professional leadership positions have included President of AIA Santa Fe and AIA New Mexico and has served as Treasurer and Director of the AIA Western Mountain Region Council. As a member of the National Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects he has served as Vice-President 2011-2012 and served as Secretary 2015-2016. He currently serves as the AIA’s representative to the Pan American Federation of Associations of Architects (FPAA) representing the North Region (Canada, USA, Mexico). He serves as FPAA Vice-President in 2018 and 2020.
John was awarded the Richard Upjohn Fellowship from the American Institute of Architects and received the AIA New Mexico's Architects Medal in 2004. He was awarded the inaugural AIA Santa Fe Turquoise Medal in 2017 recognizing him for distinguished service to the profession of architecture in acknowledgement of work with lasting influence on the practice of architecture in Santa Fe, NM.
